Shock Drop
Also called shock drop, surprise drop, surprise release
A Shock Drop is a SNKRS release that goes live with little or no warning instead of appearing on the published calendar first. It usually sells first come, first served and is usually over in minutes, so notifications and an already valid payment method are the only preparation that helps.
In use: Nothing on the calendar, a push notification at 4pm, sold out by 4pm and forty seconds: that is a Shock Drop.
A release nobody was told about
A Shock Drop is a release Nike puts live without the usual notice. There is no countdown, often no announcement beyond a push notification or a post, and the stock is gone quickly. Nike publishes neither a schedule of these nor the rules it uses to run them. Anything you read about predicting one, on this site included, is observation rather than fact.
What it means in practice
Most Shock Drops behave like a first come, first served release rather than a Draw. There is no entry window and no selection afterwards. Whoever completes checkout first gets the pair.
That narrows what preparation can do to a short list. Notifications have to be switched on, and a working card and address have to already be saved. A Shock Drop leaves no time to fix any of it. If the payment method is stale, the release will be finished before the form is.
What it is not
A Shock Drop is not a Draw that closed early, and you will not get a Missed ‘Em notification for one. You simply open the release and find it sold out, which is why people often assume they were excluded rather than late.
