Getting started
How to set up billing in Laced
Add a card and address in Billing once, wait up to sixty seconds for validation, and make sure the profile reads green before a Draw opens.
Checked against app version 1.4.11 ·
Open Billing from the main navigation and start a new billing profile.
Billing is the first thing to set up. The entry screens elsewhere in the app stay closed until one profile is valid.
Fill in every required field, cardholder name, card number, expiry, security code, and the full billing address.
Address Line 1 is the field that fails most often. Enter it exactly as your bank holds it, unit number included.
Tap Create. The sheet closes on its own and the card appears on the Billing page.
Wait for validation to finish. It can take up to sixty seconds.
A red dot means the profile is not usable yet. When the dot clears and the profile reads green, it is ready.
Check the profile again on the morning of any drop you care about.
Cards expire and banks reissue them. A profile that worked last month can quietly stop being valid.
Billing is the first thing, and the thing that breaks most
Laced cannot take an entry without a valid billing profile. That is the rule the rest of the app is built on, and it is also the most common reason a release goes past somebody who thought they were ready. Set billing up the day you install the app, not five minutes before a drop.
A billing profile is a card plus the address that belongs to it. You enter it once. Laced holds it so that a drop is not a form-filling exercise at the moment the window opens.
What happens after you tap Create
The sheet closes by itself and the card appears on the Billing page. Behind that, Laced is checking the details are usable. Validation normally finishes inside sixty seconds, and it can run longer in the busy hour before a well-known release, because a lot of profiles are being checked at the same time.
While the check is running the profile carries a red dot. A red dot is not a warning you can ride out. It means the profile is not usable and no entry will be accepted against it. When the check passes, the dot clears and the profile reads green. Green is the only state worth having on drop day.
Why it has to be right before the Draw opens
Nike charges winners at the moment the order is placed. Payment is not a step you complete afterwards at your own pace, it happens as part of the order going through. An expired card, a card the bank declines, or an address that does not match the card are all ways to be selected in a Draw and still not end up with the shoe. How SNKRS draws work goes through the rest of that sequence.
This is the failure that fills our support inbox, by a wide margin, and it is almost entirely preventable. It costs nothing to open Billing on the morning of a release and look at the dot.
What Laced holds, and what it does not
Card numbers are never stored on our servers. Addresses and similar non-sensitive details are stored encrypted on your own device. When an order is placed, that happens between your device and Nike. We are not in the middle of the payment, which is also why we cannot reverse or refund anything Nike charges you.
Keep it current
Billing is not a one-time task, it is a thing that decays. Cards expire. Banks reissue numbers after a fraud flag. People move house. Any of those turns a profile that worked in June into a profile that fails in September, and the app will only tell you once you look.
Two habits cover it. Check the dot when you open the app on a drop day, and re-save a profile after your bank sends you a new card, before the week you need it.
If you run more than one profile, every one of them needs the same treatment. Your plan sets how many profiles you can hold, and profiles and upgrades covers what that means in practice. For the specific error text the app can show, and what each message is actually telling you, read billing errors.
If something goes wrong
Address Invalid
Why it happens: Address Line 1 does not match what the card issuer holds on file.
Edit the profile and correct Address Line 1 before anything else. A missing unit number, an abbreviated street type and a shortened suburb are the three we see most.
Card Invalid or Card Expired
Why it happens: A digit is wrong, the expiry has passed, or the bank has reissued the card with a new number.
Re-enter the number, expiry and security code from the card itself rather than from memory, then save and wait for validation again.
The profile sits on Setting up or Stopped
Why it happens: Validation traffic spikes in the hour before a busy release and a check can stall.
Wait one to two minutes. If nothing has moved, open the profile and save it again without changing anything, which triggers a fresh setup.
Questions people ask
How long does billing validation take?
Up to sixty seconds in normal conditions. It can take longer in the hour before a busy release, when a lot of profiles are being checked at once. Anything still unresolved after two minutes is worth re-saving rather than waiting out.
What does the red dot on a billing profile mean?
It means the profile is not usable and Laced will not accept an entry against it. When validation succeeds the red dot clears and the profile reads green, which is the state you want before any Draw opens.
Does Laced store my card details?
No. Card numbers are never stored on our servers. Addresses and similar non-sensitive details are held encrypted on your own device, and payment happens between your device and Nike at the moment an order is placed.
Why does billing have to be valid before the Draw rather than after?
Because Nike charges winners as the order is placed. There is no gap between the result and the payment in which to fix a card. A profile that is not valid when the Draw runs is an entry that cannot turn into an order.
